Hate Mail

A letter from a Barkeater Lake reader, sent today:

Mr.Pandolph,
Your formerly funny comic has taken an offensive and boring turn with
your current plot. I hope you've got a trick up your sleeve, like you
turn this into a dream sequence or a bad acid trip, as I and likely many
of your female readers are just about done. Being fat and female in
this society is not easy. It is highly charged and multi-layered and
you've reduced it to the level of pratfalls and spit-takes. What's next, a
clown with a seltzer bottle hosing Delores down every time she tries to
eat?
I am giving your strip a few more days and I hope that it returns to
being funny and interesting.

Now, I admit that I haven't given BL the attention I should the last few months, but I knida like the idea of a character gaining weight, then watching the comedy that ensues from he/she trying to lose the weight.

Plus, as I've mentioned before... you are all the worst fans on the planet.

Heh.

Here's the thing about a fanbase-- once you gain one, they tend to develop this mindset of "ownership" over your creation. I enjoy the strip and am looking forward to whatever directions it takes. I wonder how many other siblings Banks might have...

If one of Bank's siblings is some really skinny dog from Needles, California named "Spike", I'm quitting the strip.

I know I know...I'm the worst fan ever ;)

Me? I think just-started Dolores getting chubby is funny - as one chubby to another. I also think the Corey has an incredibly talented pen. I like the different weights and lines he uses to create the BL environment. His characters are wonderfully suited to the medium, and he has a deft hand at humor and art. I -am- a big fan, and am sorry to hear that 1) BL does not pay the BiLls, and 2) his other day jobs require him to set down BL for a while. Corey, keep up the BL work - I think you're doing great stuff. I look forward to your first collection.
